Greenfield firefighters beat back flames before they could make it inside. Once they did they found one person dead and two others suffering injuries. Authorities did not release the victim's name. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

A second victim was taken to the hospital, and their condition is unknown. A third person said they heard the smoke alarms and were able to escape the home unharmed.

It's unclear how much damage the home took in the fire.

The Greenfield Fire Department is investigating what sparked the blaze.

Firefighters across the state have warned residents about the high potential for fires. Western Massachusetts remains under a red flag warning because of high winds and dry conditions.

There is an outdoor burning ban in effect as well.
